I love having guests to our house, and I want them to feel comfortable when they are here. Which partly means having a guest bedroom they can call “home” when they are with us. And let’s be honest, even if you have the best guests in the world, sometimes it’s a good idea for everyone to have some alone time! So here are my 9 Steps to the Guest Bedroom they will never want to leave!
**Not responsible for these suggestions creating guests that overstay their welcome
But first…Free Bedroom Designs
But before we start, I wanted to share some of my FAVORITE free Bedroom Designs. I have free bedroom Mood Boards, Shopping Lists, Guides, and more located in my FREE RESOURCE LIBRARY. You’ll find designs that will not only work for your Guest Bedroom, but also Master Bedroom and your Kid’s Rooms.
ONE. A framed WiFi Password…so you never have to spell your mother’s maiden name again for guests. This one is even a free printable! Find it over at I Rock So What: wouldn’t this look so cute framed on the side table?
TWO. Add n easy “drop area” to your guest bedroom. Whenever my parents come to visit I find random sets of keys, phones, and wallets all over the house. Put a cute tray out on a side table or dresser to corral those objects so they can have a home base. If you are able to, place it near an outlet for an easy breezy phone charging station. No more searching for their lost phone!Go Feminin
THREE. A multi tasking armoire. Load this big boy up with extra blankets, sheets, and towels for your guests. As a bonus, fill up a basket with often forgotten items. Supply items such as extra toothbrushes, aspirin, mini sewing kit, feminine products, travel sized deoderants, etc. I stock up in the travel section of my grocery. Or if you don’t have the extra space, try this trick using an empty canister…now you have a reason to keep all of those free samples…
How amazing is this one by Savvy Southern Style? I’m loving those numbered drawers, they would be perfect for guest bedroom storage. She has room for extra bedding, plus I love that full length mirror she put on the side.
FOUR: It also leads to Tip #4:Give them a mirror! Have you ever stayed at someone’s home where the bathroom wasn’t close by? You wanted to give a quick bedhead look in the mirror before venturing out where others might see you. It can be on the side of a piece of furniture, on top of a desk area, or hung above the bedside table.
FIVE. Leave ’em a basket full of goodies. I go bananas for those hotels that leave a chocolate on my pillow. One up them with a goodie basket. I like to leave a snack and a couple of bottles of water on the bedside table to save guests from having to walk to my kitchen in the middle of the night. If your guests are here for a special occasion, maybe leave them a list of your fav resteraunts or a cute map of the area. This is especially great if you have long term guests and aren’t planning on providing all of the meals. If you really wanted to go over the top check out this treat bag:
SIX. Provide slippers for your guests to wear. Yes, this might seem a bit over the top, but if you are one of those people who don’t like guests to wear shoes in your home, this could be a great way to remind them with style. Hey, Oprah does it!
SEVEN. Sleep in your guest bedroom one night and check it out. I did it once I realized a couple of key things. I couldn’t turn off the main light without getting up out of bed. Quick fix: a bedside lamp. And while I loved my guest room quilt I realized that I did wake up cold. So then I stocked the closet with a down duvet, and let my guests know its there if they want it Or simply fold on the end of the bed and let them decide:
EIGHT. I feel like a guest room is a spot to have a little F-U-N. It is not a room you are in every day, so go ahead and be bold with the colors! Find some cute sheets. Or some crazy fun artwork that you are not QUITE ready to wake up to every day in your own room.
NINE. A place to leave their dirty laundry. I made this mistake of not having a laundry basket in my guest room. Guests would awkwardly wonder where they should put their dirty towels. Or the age old question…To strip or not strip the sheets? If they feel so inclined, at least they have a spot for it!

Fantastic blog! Do you have any helpful hints for aspiring writers?
I’m hoping to start my own site soon but I’m a little lost on everything.
Would you propose starting with a free platform like WordPress
or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that
I’m completely overwhelmed .. Any tips? Thanks a lot!

HI! Yes, I think WordPress is a great place to start-it is very user friendly, plus a lot of great templates to start with. I did have my designed for me when I started four years ago, but have learned a lot as I went along, so now I make all of my own design changes to my site. Best of luck! 🙂
